Prom

My two older girls went to prom on the 10th of May. This was Chelsea's first official date (I did take her out the night before). She turned 16 on the 6th. She was really excited. Her date was a senior named Braden and he picked her up in his dad's Mercedes! She looked really pretty. Our neighbor Beth and her mother did our girls hair and make up. This was Chantel's last  formal dance before graduating Mountain View High School. Chantel's date was about 2 feet taller than her! No, really. Chantel was wearing the tallest shoes she could find, but it was still funny.
Teresa and I got to chaperone the dance, which was held at Noah's place out in Pleasant Grove. I thought the room looked a wee bit small, and it turned out to be. It was about 500 degrees in there. We were asked to make sure no one went upstairs, and were seated right by the bathrooms. They were single occupancy each and it was funny to watch the prom-goers fidget and
do the "potty dance" while they waited.
I was happy that my daughters both had a great time and came home with "honor" (we always joke about returning with honor). I have some pictures of my girls for you to see.
I've known my wife since 1981 and we were the typical love-hate high school romance. Well, for my senior ball I took out a girl named Lisa, and my best friend Lance took out a girl named Lisa, too. I rented a tux and we ate at Maxwell's Plumb in San Francisco. My date order a lot of a-la-carte menu items (she must have been used to doing so- her dad was a rich airline pilot). I think I ordered a bowl of hot water (what I could afford!). The dance was at the Fairmont in SF. It was a fun night, but drained me of my meager $3.35 an hour, shoe dying job earnings pretty quick. Literally the next day Teresa called and asked me to take her to her prom. Without any regard or thought about how it would affect her, I just said no because I was financially depleted.
She has never let me forget it.
So, by chaperoning the dance, I have now officially "taken her to prom".
I did ask myself when I wanted her home and what my intentions were, etc. I need to talk to the bishop.

Great story. My parents paid for my first prom (I took my sister, who had never been asked to a dance) and gave me $20 for dinner. When I informed them that would buy 3 leaves of lettuce, they gave me $10 more and wished me well. My sister ended up having a salad and I had the steamed vegetables. I think that is where I started to hate asparagus (until recently).

Lovely girls, Paul. I'm sure their dates knew that you're a bishop, eh?
